SHOWTIME PRODUCTIONS CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

It incorporates both technical work and creative dance sequences. The class involves and explores cross rhythms, syncopation and question and answer techniques. Tap routines are taught in a range of different styles including blues, rhythm tap, jazz tap and theatrical tap.

HIP HOP
A high-energy class that uses the latest sounds in rap, R&B and pop music together with movements influenced by some of today's hottest video choreographers presented in an age appropriate manner. Hip hop encompasses movement that has elements of poppin’, locking, and breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style.

BELLY DANCING
Students will learn new movements each class, building coordination, grade, strength, and flexibility. Come discover the joy of this organic dance form and celebrate movement through an ancient, life-embracing art! Learn and practice basic techniques including proper stance and posture, arm carriage and patterns, fundamental shimmies, isolations, introductory undulations, and traveling steps. Choreography will be taught to incorporate new movements.

POINTE
Pointe work is a very serious step in ballet training and it is extremely important for students to be technically and physically ready to avoid injury. Students are generally not allowed to go "en pointe" until they are about 12 years old. They must have been taking at least 2 ballet classes per week for at least 2 years to build the needed strength and technique to begin pointe work safely. Students at the Saugerties Ballet Center are evaluated at the end of the year as they approach the age to begin pointe work. They are told what areas of their body and technique are weak and need to be strengthened so they can focus on this during their regular classes.

ACRO
For the student interested in stunts and flexibility, this course is a creative approach to gymnastics and acrobatics combined with dance technique.

MUSICAL THEATER
Perfect for the budding star in the family! Through fun and exciting theatre games, voice exercises and movement explorations, students will discover the magic of theatre.
